WATERLOO, Ont. (November 6, 2010) - The Queen's Gaels men's volleyball team extended their win streak to four games with a 3-1 win over the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks in Waterloo on Saturday evening. Set scores were 25-23, 25-10, 25-12 and 25-19.
Queen's record now sits at 4-0 and they are two points behind the 5-0 Western Mustangs for the lead in the OUA. Laurier drops to 3-3 on the season.
Joreen Zeeman of Cambridge, Ont., led the Gaels with 20 points on 14 kills, four aces and two blocks. He also had four digs in the win. Queen's
Bryan Fautley of Oakville, Ont., recorded a double-double with a game high 15 kills and 10 digs.
Setter
Jackson Dakin of Courteany, B.C., was named the player of the game recording eight points, four and a half blocks as well as a game high 27 assists.
The Gaels prevented any Golden Hawk from breaking the double-digit mark. Cameron Wheelan of Barrie, Ont., was Laurier's top scorer with nine points. He had eight kills on 28 attacks. and also recorded a ace.
Queen's opened the first set with a 9-4 lead but a series of unforced errors allowed Laurier to surge ahead to prevail 25-23. The Gaels regrouped putting together 24 blocks and nine service aces to take the next three sets 25-10, 25-12 and 25-19.
The Gaels will battle York and Ryerons next weekend at home in the Main Gym of the Athletics and Recreation Centre in Kingston, Ont.. York opens the two-game home stand on Friday, November 12 while Ryerson will visit on Saturday, Nov. 13. Both games are set for 8:00pm and follow the women's volleyball games.
