OTTAWA, Ont. (January 11, 2010) - On January 9 and 10, Queen's Fencing participated in the Carleton Invitational team relay event, with performances that made medal rounds and that demonstrated the strong potential for the teams at the OUA East Qualifiers and the Championships.
On Saturday, Men's Foil A (
Christian Petrozza,
Dean Loubert, and Chris Perez finished in 5th place, with the B team (
Craig Harvey, Matt Kaiser,
Robert Rundle) fought well to 10th. Women's Epee A (
Sydney Houston-Goudge,
Laura Bartha, and rookie
Janice Lao) just missed the bronze medal finishing 4th, with the B team (rookies Amber St. Thomas, Katie Fraser,
Margaret Cheung) just behind at 7th. Men's Sabre A (
Scott Bowman, Marin Busse, and Jimmy Wintle) also just missed the bronze to finish 4th, and the B team (
George Huang, and rookies
Adam Sprott,
Jacob Bryce, and Will Tran) managed to reach 8th place.
On Sunday, the Women's Foil team (Faye Sun,
Nancy Chua, and epeeist
Laura Bartha) achieved a solid 5th place despite missing a key athlete. Women's Sabre A (
Stacey McDonald, Kim Sakkal, rookie Marika Franko) reached the bronse medal round but conceded due to injury, ending 4th ahead of the B team (Beth Padden and rookies
Safia Dhanji and
Jacqueline Loiselle finished in 7th place. Good performances were also recorded by the Men's Epee squad. The A team (
Jack Chen,
Mario Gibney,
Danny Jang) missed the medakl ropunds by one point to finish 7th, and the B team (
David McBey, Aleks Wittkamp, and rookie
Justin Kim) finished in 9th place. .
Queen's Fencing will compete next in the OUA's Eastern Qualifiers, January 16-17 at RMC.
